The general idea of this project is anchored in the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations. The objective is to promote the values of sustainability and to increase global awareness of people who are able to internalise these values and transform them into sustainable everyday practices.

Our strategy to start this awareness-raising action on the SDGs is supported by the 'Sustainability Makers'; education professionals who, through their role, have the possibility of amplifying a message, creating awareness and promoting a daily debate through experimentation and innovation. We are convinced that we can reach more people through these multiplier agents. That is why it is important to improve the sustainable and digital competences of the 'Sustainability Makers'.

Through these Sustainability Makers we aim to spread the message more widely to all Vocational Education and Training (VET) professionals who are our beneficiaries in this project.

The VET sector, which is specifically oriented on the labour market, should take responsibility that the current students – the future professionals – will stand on this side of their communities and environment. It is important that the education systems make them aware of their future service for the society and the importance of using their work to improve people’s lives.

Our main priority in this project is to address the digital transformation within the VET sector where we think it is necessary to bring practices and innovative tools in the educational proposals and processes in relation to the values of sustainability.

Stairway to SDG 3.0 wants to keep and promote a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and technological approach in order to prepare and train our “Sustainability Makers”. Our goal is to involve these people during the whole process of creation and design of an e-learning platform and a 2D game about the SDGs.

E-StairwaytoSDG (e-learning)

SustainabilityMakers.eu is an e-learning platform designed to provide an online educational experience with engaging digital content on the topic of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It aims to reach a wide audience and have a concrete impact in promoting sustainability education.

The platform contains an introduction module, 17 SDG-specific modules, and a final module for evaluating the learning process. The platform also gives direct connection to the 2D game.

Each of the 17 central modules is divided into 3 main sections: Know, Explore, Act.

‘Know’ introduces the topics related to the SDG and has the objective of providing deeper insight and knowledge to learners.

‘Explore’ is focused on the Action Areas related to the SDG. It includes three different activities in which learners are the protagonists of their own learning process. Through research, learning by doing methodology, and engaging digital content, this section aims to connect theory to real life problems.

‘Act’ contains a Call to Action (one for each SDG) encouraging learners to develop some concrete actions to face the challenges that have been explored in the previous two sections. Moreover, the platform enables users to share the outcomes of the call to action with other learners.

Sustainability Makers promotes blended learning by adapting face-to-face activities and creating new digital content for online delivery, without losing the importance of teamwork, debating among peers and taking initiatives to act outside the class and have a greater impact for a shift towards sustainability.

The platform offers a range of activities and resources, such as self-assessment, reading materials, short videos, interactive media, missions, gamification elements and peer evaluations that make learning more engaging.

SustainabilityMakers.eu, which is available in seven official EU languages, facilitates commitment and interaction between students and teachers, as well as other stakeholders involved in Vocational Education and Training.

Sustainability Challenge (2D game)

Sustainability Challenge is a 2D game designed to engage students and stimulate transformative learning. It offers a different way of teaching through an innovative tool that can be adapted to different learning styles.

The game's aim is to explore some important action areas of the SDGs related to concrete actions and practices through which people can embrace sustainability in everyday life, so that players can reflect on their daily behaviours by accepting the challenge of Agenda 2030.

The game is available in seven official EU languages and incorporates 6 different challenges, through which the player has the opportunity to learn and think about the impact that our choices can have on the planet, the society and our own well-being . Moreover, every challenge incorporates various interactive dynamics that enable players to raise their consciousness by having fun.

The game's benefits include improving coordination, developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills, enhancing memory and concentration, and supporting learning in the subject areas explored during gameplay. The game also helps increase levels of engagement and motivation among learners, accelerate cognitive functions, and improve multitasking abilities.

You can play the game here.
